As the weather officially cooled off for us here today, I began thinking of how many concoctions I could create in my blender at home that would be a better alternative to coffee, a little more exciting and nutritious than tea and in line with my ferocious craving for autumn foods and spices. I decided that all these ideas are just simply too delicious to keep to myself! I have spent much time in my kitchen through the years experimenting like a mad scientist with all of these flavors. And instead of just straight out giving you the recipes, it would be much more worthwhile to let you in on the "idea" so that you could do your own experimenting with your very own personal favorites.
I think that it is important to find your favorite versions of "Autumn Yumminess" to help you steer away from depending on coffee and to also be able to share with friends. These warming drinks will have nutritional value to offer by increasing omega 3 fatty acids (yeah, baby!) and give you antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents and can aid you with keeping your waist slim this winter. Turning to one of these delicious and nutritious drinks instead of piggin' out on your favorite pastry and coffee at Starbucks can help you gain energy and vitality instead of deplete you!
So, here we go! A few concepts that you can start with would be: a creamy hemp seed chai, a pumkin nog, a coconut chai, or a cacao elixer. (Note: you would not want to get any of these drinks too hot and kill the natural life-giving enzymes. Most of these are raw-food type recipes and are meant to be served just slightly warm and not steaming hot.
A list of ingredients that you can work with:
almonds
almond milk
hemp seed
hemp seed milk
chai tea
mate'
green tea
raw cacao nibs (raw chocolate)
juiced pumpkin or acorn squash
coconut oil (adds creaminess to any drink, as will blended nuts or seeds)
juiced carrots
acai berry powder
coconut milk
cloves
nutmeg
cinnamon
(or just pumpkin pie spice)
Agave, Honey or Sevia to sweeten
Idea #1- juice a pie pumpkin, add in desired amount of almond or hemp milk, some nuts or seeds of choice (almonds, hemp or chia are recommended), a tsp or more of coconut oil, your pumpkin pie spices and a little sweetener. Heaven!
Idea #2- Create a chai tea by using chai tea blended with mate', hemp seeds, coconut oil, pie spices and sweetener. YUM!
Idea #3- Create an elixer with carrot juice, acai berry powder, raw cacao nibs, coconut oil, coconut milk, pie spices and sweetener. DEEEELISH!
Let me know if you get adventurous and try any of these concoctions. I would LOVE to hear your feedback!
